A former R. Kelly employee told a federal grand jury on Thursday that the singer regularly recorded himself having sex with underage girls, and collected them as badges of honor. According to TMZ, the former R. Kelly confidant claimed that federal authorities have multiple tapes in their possession.
According to a source, the ex-employee testified in the Northern District of Illinois and stated that Kelly paid him “a large sum of cash” in exchange for one of the tapes. However, the footage was ultimately obtained by Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. The unnamed employee testified that they handed several other videos over to federal authorities.
The defamed singer’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, responded to the news in a statement to TMZ. “This seems to be the same claims that were made in the state case,” he said. “We will address them in court.”
The ex-employee stated that those who traveled in Kelly’s inner circle knew of the singer’s sordid sexual abuse, and chose to help him seek out the underage women rather than report him to law enforcement.
This admission corroborated testimony given by several R. Kelly victims last week, who stated the singer’s inner circle, per Kelly’s orders, transported them across state lines for sex when they were underage.
On Thursday, the singer was handed 11 new sex abuse-related charges, including four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, which is classified as a “Class X” felony in Illinois. In response to the filing, Greenberg stated that these new charges are part of an existing case and involve the “same alleged victim.”
