Our Forever President Barack Obama is pitching in to help the less fortunate ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
On Tuesday, at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Obama assisted volunteers with the preparation of meals and bagging of food.
Tuesday night, the food bank tweeted out its thanks to the former Commander-In-Chief, saying, “We believe no one should go hungry, especially this time of year, and that’s why we’re working to address the root causes of hunger in Chicago and Cook County.”
Obama later responded via Twitter with his own words of gratitude for the volunteers who, as he said, “are doing great work and let me crash today.” He concluded with, “Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!”
Visits to local food banks are somewhat of a tradition for the 44th President. During his stay in office, the one-time junior Senator from Illinois visited several times, often with wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha.
This year the former first family has a lot to be thankful for. Just yesterday, Barnes & Nobles announced that ESSENCE’s December cover star, Michelle Obama, is at the top of U.S. book charts with her new memoir, Becoming, and it is the fastest selling book of 2018 with nearly nine books sold per second on its opening day, Essence reports.
