Break Time! Serena Williams Is Hanging Up Her Racket For The Rest Of The Year

After making a difficult return to the tennis court post-baby and facing endless challenges along the way,

Serena Williams is hanging up her racket for the rest of the year. With her withdrawal from next week’s China Open, Williams completes her 2018 season.

Tennis World USA reports Williams opted to skip the premiere, mandatory event in Beijing, meaning her season is officially at a close with 24 matches. According to the site:

Serena Williams made her much-anticipated return to Grand Slam tennis at the 2018 French Open, where she defeated Czech Republic’s Kristyna Pliskova 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in the first round. Unfortunately, she was forced to pull out of the finals due to an injury.

Her signature catsuit was also banned, but she responded by rocking tutus to her US Open matches.

Williams went on to be defeated by Naomi Osaka from Japan in a controversial match where the Compton native was accused of cheating.

She was hit with three code violations after her 6-2, 6-4 loss to Osaka, being  fined $4,000 for being warned for coaching, $3,000 for breaking her racket and $10,000 for “verbal abuse” toward Carlos Ramos, the umpire who presided over the match.

With Williams hanging up her racket for the rest of the year, she’ll certainly be spending more time with husband,  Alexis Ohanian Sr, and daughter, Alexis Olympia.
