Kanye West has reportedly dropped everything to be by his father’s side after a recent cancer diagnosis.
According to TMZ, his father, Ray West, is battling prostate cancer.
Sources say Kanye stopped everything to rush home to Los Angeles where Ray is currently responding well to treatment. Although Kanye’s relationship with his father isn’t as widely recognized as his strong ties to his late mother Donda West, Kanye and Ray’s relationship has remained amicable over the years, according to TMZ.
Kanye West spoke about his father in a 2013 interview the BBC and Zane Lowe.
“My father was a Black Panther,” Kanye said. “My father was a journalist, a paparazzi, a photojournalist. He was a paparazzi. We had a dark room in our house. Like seven years ago, he lived in a homeless shelter. Not because he was homeless, because he wanted to help the ex-drug addicts. He wanted to get that close.
He started a foundation called Good Water and moved to the Dominican Republic to help right there, to help with the prostitution, to help with the extortion, to help right there, he stays in the Dominican Republic right now.”
This news comes nearly 11 years after Donda West’s passing. Post-op complications from plastic surgery resulted in a fatal heart attack.
“In summary, it is my opinion Ms. West died from some pre-existing coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors following surgery,” Deputy Medical Examiner Louis A. Peña wrote in the coroner’s report.
Donda’s death has been heavy on Kanye’s heart for the past decades and has also been a suspected trigger for some of Kanye’s latest breakdowns. As Kanye has since been laying low, it’s no wonder he’s making sure his father is as comfortable as possible.
