Man Accused of Raping and Killing 13-month-old Girl Camped in Woods Before Capture.
A man is being accused of raping and killing a 13-month-old girl in Conneaut, Ohio. Reports say the man camped in the woods and hitched hiked during his 3-week run from police.
Joshua Dale Gurto, 37, was charged with aggravated murder and rape earlier this month in the death of Sereniti Jazzlynn-Sky Blankenship-Sutley.
On October 7, police responded to a call about an unresponsive child at an Conneaut apartment in the north east area of Cleveland. The girl had extensive injuries on her head and body. She later died at the hospital. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gurto was arrested at Sheetz gas station early on Friday in Franklin Park, Pennsylvania. During his journey a passerby picked up him up and took him 20 miles north of Sewickley, Pennsylvania. A Franklin officer recognized Gurto right away and ordered him to the ground. Police said Gurto admitted to who he was when they asked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reports from KDKA-TV say he was captured around 1:30 a.m. and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Gurto was wearing camouflage and a back pack with maps of Pennsylvania and New York in it, along with a tent and knife. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Investigators say they don’t believe Gurto was helped by anyone. Authorities expect to extradite Gurto back to Ohio in about three to five days.
