Brisco once had a promising career. The South Florida rapper was working with artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and DJ Khaled, and was signed to Miami indie imprint Po Boy Entertainment. Now he will spend the next four years and three months of his life in prison after being sentenced on charges of selling fake cash and stealing identities.

Brisco, born British Mitchell, was handed down the sentence yesterday (May 31) in a Miami courtroom, reports the Sun-Sentinel.
“I’m very remorseful for what I did,” Brisco explained to U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom. “I’m just trying to right my wrongs and get back to my children and get back to my music.”

The Miami MC was initially arrested last December at The Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club in Hallandale Beach on eight federal charges linked to identity theft, fraud and selling counterfeit currency. The rapper was accused of running a fraud ring from November 2015 to August 2016, which roped in $200,000 in illegal funds. He was caught after trying to sell fake bills to an undercover agent. Authorities also claim part of Brisco’s ploy was to buy items at local home-improvement stores. The items were then sold to contractors at reduced prices.

Prior to the arrest, the rapper had led police on two high-speed chases that were eventually called off due to safety concerns. Two weeks after his arrest, he plead not guilty to the charges. He has spent the time since then in the Federal Detention Center in downtown Miami.
