Land Owners Demonstrate Against Loading Of Illegally Logged Trees

Local land owners gather to demonstrate against the loading of illegally logged trees from their rainforests onto the ‘Harbour Gemini’ ship, in Paia inlet, Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea, in September 2008.

The ship was being loaded with valuable hardwoods which were bound for China.

It is estimated that twenty percent of climate-wrecking global greenhouse gas emissions annually are caused by the deforestation of natural forests worldwide, this deforestation is also devastating for the biodiversity which natural rainforests hold, as well has having severe impacts on the ability of indigenous peoples to live in and from the forests.
