Newborn baby Shephard was born premature, but our community health workers in Malawi are working to ensure his survival with interventions like Kangaroo Mother Care.
The prolonged skin-to-skin contact helps the youngest and most vulnerable children by promoting breastfeeding and reducing infection—all the while providing a great bonding opportunity for mom and baby.
“I’m optimistic,” mother Ester tell us. “I notice that he likes the warmth and tranquility when I put him on my chest. I think this will go well, and that he has a future.”
