Some residents drove home despite the evacuation order Saturday night and were denied entry at the Beaufort County line by State Troopers.
Many residents had been waved through earlier in the day, but the late-comers had to wait for upward of an hour before finally being let in. The evacuation order is still in effect for Sunday.
“Patience” is again the keyword of the day.
The evacuation has not been lifted. Crews are still working to ensure a safe return to the county.
People with certain re-entry passes, though, were given the OK to return on Sunday morning.
Gov. Nikki Haley will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Beaufort County officials are meeting at noon today to discuss re-entry.
We will post all updates here on this story, on our homepage, and on the Packet’s Facebook page or the Gazette’s Facebook page.
Hilton Head Island Mayor David Bennett posted an update on the island’s recovery progress on Facebook late Saturday night. The main focus for re-entry is getting the hospital operational.
